Organizers stage event to promote kayaking Cebu Bohol

IN a bid to support the government's promotion of the Philippines as a kayaking destination, organizers will hold the third leg of the Philippine Kayaking series in a race from Cebu to Bohol on December 4 to 6.

The third leg, called Kayak Explore Cebu-Bohol Crossing, have a 125-kilometer kayak marathon, clinics, 5-km novice races, eco-touring flotilla, island hopping, moonlight paddling, and eco-tour packages.

Organizer Didi Camara said they are expecting around 100 participants in the three-day event that will start from Mactan Island, Cebu and move to Panglao Island, Bohol.

Among the local participants are communities from Moalboal, Daanbantayan, Borbon, Aloguinsan, and Camotes Island.

“Kayaking is gaining a strong following among locals and foreigners,” Camara told Sun.Star Cebu.
Camara recalled that she and her husband, Val, of Sun and Sea Sports Systems, Inc. introduced and promoted kayaking in Cebu in 1995. Val is also Philippine Kayaking Association, Inc. president and Philippine Kayaking Series event organizer.

The couple said the market potential for kayaking is “wide and diverse” since the popular aqua sport has many disciplines such as whitewater kayaking, slalom, kayak surfing, river kayaking, sprint, and touring.

“However, the potentials of bringing international tourists and capturing a sizeable share in the international kayaking market have not been realized. While almost all resorts offer kayaks and tour packages for that ultimate kayaking experience in the Philippines, we still cannot claim to be a kayaking destination,” they said in a statement. http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/organizers-stage-event-promote-kayaking
