Tazis:  If you’re taking a cab home, you have three options: take the expensive Airport Taxi, which has a fixed price (super expensive), a “metered” yellow taxi (I hear from Melo that they were charging a flat rate of Php 400. What the heck, right?), or the regular (and true) metered taxi. The first thing you’d see when you step out of the terminal are the airport taxis. Keep walking to the right and you’d see the line of Yellow taxis. I had a bad feeling about these yellow taxis, as I saw a huge concentration of their ilk in the airport parking lot.

To get the cheapest white taxis, you must now go upstairs to the arrival area, by taking the esculator at the one end of terminal and then going to the other end gate 4 exit and cross the street to the main street where white taxis pass by.  Make sure you ask for the meter or you have wasted your tmie.

Cebu Pacific initially used the terminal in the last week of July 2009 for some of its domestic routes, then followed by PAL Express and Air Philippines... Last August 2, Cebu Pacific moved all its flights, domestic and international to T3...

How Many Terminals Are there in Manila airport?

There are two operational International Terminals at the Manila Airport and a third which is yet to be opened and a Domestic Terminal no more than 1 kilometre from the International Terminals.

Terminal 1

Terminal 1 is the original International Terminal and is known as the NAIA Terminal where all international flights arrive except Philippine Airlines (PAL). This is the terminal which you will more than likely arrive in. It is old and can be a challenge but I’ll get to that in a minute.

You can catch a metered taxi on the departure level by going out exit 4 and going out to the street. Take the esculator at the far end of the terminal to go up to the departure level.  Otherwise you must take the foreigner priced metered expensive taxis on the arrival level.

Airport taxis are reported to be a rip-off, charging up to 4 times the meterd fare. To avoid this, walk up the stairs to arrivals (ask if you cannot find the stairs) and get in a taxi that someone has just arrived in - nobody will care. Go by the meter and add a few extra Pesos. When heading to the airport make sure you tell the taxi driver which terminal, if you go to the wrong one it is another taxi ride across to the correct one.

How do you like the semi-private lounge in NAIA?
I tried it this past visit, $10 US$ (P 460) includes buffet breakfast, wireless or they provide prvt hi-speed desktops to use, a shower area in case u waited overnite in the airport, a smoking area and relaxing chairs to watch tv or read there are also prvt rooms with a double bed. if you and/or travel companion wish to sleep an hour or two before your flight, - they offer a wake up at boarding time. for an extra small fee theres a fully stocked bar, massages available w/2-4 filipinas on duty.

no airline membership required its for any passenger... with the Ten smackers

Terminal 2

The second terminal is known as Centennial Terminal. It is for the exclusive use of the Philippines National carrier, Philippines Airlines (PAL). The terminal itself is relatively new, opening in 1999 and is modern and spacious. It caters for both Domestic and International PAL only flights.

Terminal 3

Interesting enough the NAIA 3 was ready for operation in 2003. Now in 2005 it appears the opening of Terminal 3 is to “expected” by the first quarter in 2006. Due to a business dispute between the terminals contractor a German consortium and the Arroyo Administration the opening of Terminal 3 has been postponed on numerous occasions. In December 2004 the Philippine Government took over the management of the new NAIA Terminal 3 at Manila Airport.

This Terminal 3 is significantly larger than Terminal 1 and was intended to take the place of the original terminal. I will keep you up to date as to when this Terminal 3 will eventually open.  See photos http://www.unlawyer.net/photos/?a=ninoy-aquino-international-airport-naia-terminal-3&i=2236

Mactan Cebu International Airport

Taxis:   What we did was walk out the arrivals section, cross the street and look for the stairs that headed for the departure area. We then flagged a cab that was dropping passengers off from the departure area. Very practical considering that the cab who just arrived from the departure area already made money dropping a passenger off and would not think about bleeding you dry for a fixed rate considering that you are paying for his way back to the main island. If he did try to jack you, you could just get off and wait for the next cab exiting the departure area.  But our last trip the airport in their wisdom as tried to eliminate this choice as they have new taxis with a much higher rate now sitting there and the police hassle the taxis dropping off passengers.  The airport has joined the official ripoff and passengers dont like it!  Some say you can get a white metered taxi in front of the Waterfront hotel at the airport.
traditional white taxis are the cheapest. P30 flagfall plus P2.5 per 200 metres plus P2.5 per minute waiting time.

The new yellow airport taxis are P70 flagfall plus P4 per 200 metres plus P4 per minute waiting time.

The average cost in a yellow airport taxi to the centre of Cebu City is P270, compared to about P150 in a white taxi.
